Farms, Orchards, and Nurseries

Our rolling hills don't give rise to the huge commercial wheat fields you see in western Ohio; here you'll find many family farms raising hay and cattle, orchards, and (number one in the state!) Christmas trees.

This is the time to pay our farms a visit; you can't get your apples, fruits and veggies any fresher, and the price ain't bad, either.

Thomas Pumpkins  2166 Jasmine Rd. (Off SR171);   216-627-5730.
The papers keep saying pumpkins will be scarce this year, but Thomas' has plenty. And they'll be keeping the prices low again this year. Pick up your fall decorations: "Indian" corn, squash, corn stalks, and miniature pumpkins.

C.L. Manfull Orchards 8120 Kensington Rd. (SR9, Augusta); (216)627-2336. The cider here is awesome! Plus they've got more kinds of fresh apples. Winesap, Empire, Ida Red, Melrose, Mcintosh (my favorite), Rome, Mutsu (these are huge), and more. Open 9-5, closed Sundays. They stay open all winter, til April, or til the apples run out.

Snodes Melons Arrow Rd., off SR 43N.

Christmas Trees
Come November/ December, we'll ship out hundreds of semi-truckloads of trees. Sure, one might end up at your local tree lot, but plan on coming yourself to pick out exactly the right tree. You just can't beat the memories the kids will keep, and you'll know the tree is not only perfect for your home, but fresh to the day.

Carlton Tree Farms 7033 Avon Rd. NE; 216-738-4196.
