Contest Deadline is Nov. 30, 2001.

Contest Rules.

Purpose. We want to encourage student and amateur developers to learn about, and practice developing, interactive history education.

Medium. You don't have to use Flash. Creative use of any web technologies will be accepted.

Topic. Anything relating to WWII in the South Pacific. A tip, though: though: our judges are proud of America and believe that young people should have heroes.

Audience. Your target audience can be any age. We're looking for work that supports military officer's professional development as much as work introducing Jr. High students to the war.

Judges. The judging panel will be consumers and teachers of History, engineers, and/or web professionals.

Judging Criteria. We'll ask the Judges to look for the best contributions to using sound, animation, and interactivity to illustrate History over the web.

We'll tell the Judges the value of symbol libraries, open source components, etc.

Parallel prizes may be given for categories, e.g. best contribution to open source development, best childrens project, best military professional project. At this point, we're waiting to see what turns up.

Open Source. In the spirit of launching the Open History Project, components you develop should be open source.

What to Submit. You should submit both your finished product and the source movies and resources. Finished product may be a web site, in which case submit the URL.

Prizes. We want to be as fair as possible with prizes. If your project is built by a team, tell us. If you already own a TIVO, tell us. Within a limited budeget, we'll work something out.
