Finding
History Sites and Articles
|
|
For those who may
be new to searching history, hopefully this little info will save you
time.
Again, send your
suggestions for this page to ej0c@raex.com
Directories
Looksmart.com
seems to have the most entries directly related to historical topics. Looksmart
has categories you can browse at Library > Humanities > History
The open
directory project (www.dmoz.org) also has a large number of sites.
Sometimes you can find
unique sites at about.com.
They too have moderators. The site has some
browsing, but it's easiest to start with a search.
Of course, Metacrawer
always gives results, both good and not so good.
Encyclopedias
Columbia
Encyclopedia (Sixth edition, 1993) is fully online at infoplease.com.
Encyclopedia
Britannica now has free access, and includes links to other sites and
articles.
Catholic
Encyclopedia (www.newadvent.org) is also fully online, and has entries
for on many
people and topics not mentioned elsewhere. Note that this is the 1917
version, which is a mixed blessing (why).
Encyclopedia.com
This is the Columbia
Encyclopedia, 3rd Edition.
