Bureau 13: The Akron Dump
Back

Due to the on-call nature of virtually every agent available in the Great Lakes region a dump was reactivated and completely rebuilt in Akron, Ohio as a point of organization.  Over time, to further facilitate agents, this dump has become one of the few actually staffed facilities.  Adhoc teams can be assembled, briefed, and equipped very rapidly.  This proved to be a boon to agents on missions where time was a critical factor.  This also provided a location for the temporary storage of special Bureau equipment as well as whatever "unusual" items agents acquired before being shipped off to Bureau research/holding facilities.  The down side to this of course, is the specter of the Massacre of '77.  Some day a hostile force may discover this dump's location.  The Dump, like most teams, is on its own.  If its ever taken out of action so be it.  In no way can Bureau Central be traced back from the dump or vise versa.  Missions come in via secured computer link or encrypted message.  Special equipment requests take just as long as for any other team.  Agents are not contacted directly from the dump but are instead given orders or directions on how to find it per normal mission call up by Bureau 13 Central.

Bio:  Maria grew up in the Barrios of L.A..  Growing up in that sort of environment defiantly left its mark as well as toughened her both mentally and physically.  While growing up she managed to avoid quite a few problems through the use of her considerable Psi Talents in Remote Viewing and Empathy, which lucky for her, manifested at a very early age.  Its quite helpful to know where the cops are searching for you or if that gang-banger is really enraged with you or just showing off.
Maria managed to work her way out of her old neighborhood and into a B.A. in Journalism at the University of Southern California.  And is in fact is quite a good free lance photo-journalist.  A profession that has provided her with an excellent cover on Bureau missions.
Her involvement in the Bureau came after she performed an empathic read on a Bureau agent who happened to be a Psionic himself.  Maria jumped at the chance to join the Bureau after she learned that she wasn't alone in her talents, not to mention fact that there was a REALLY good paycheck involved.
After her initial training period she participated in quite an number of Bureau missions.  During one very dangerous encounter with a rogue psychic the here-to-fore latent talent of Telepathy manifested itself.  Also, in her time as a field agent, she is credited with the solo destruction of a Vampire.  In a separate encounter with a disabled alien ship she was given the gift of a crystal by its crew that has the following properties, +15% skills bonus in using psi talents and a WKP cost reduction of one-third (round up).  For some reason as yet unknown Maria is the only one who has been able to use the crystal. (Believe me other psi gifted agents have tried.)  In 1989, when the decision to staff the Akron dump was made, Maria became its caretaker.
Maria is a very petite woman who stands all of about 5'4" tall.  Her black hair, dark eyes and brown skin perfectly match her mild but noticeable spanish accent.  She is fond of Bureau issued Kevlar clothing and usually sports a leather jacket and photographer's bag.  She is normally armed with her trusty Wildy .45 Magnum and always carries a switchblade. (Some habits die hard.)
