Building the Basement Walls

Once the footers are poured, allow 2 to 3 days for the concrete to set before the

basement walls can be built.

Here is the crew laying the block for the basement walls

A normal basement wall is 11 courses(rows) high, some people go 12 or 13 courses in order

to provide extra headroom in the basement after the heating, plumbing and finished

ceiling are put in. Since we could not dig down very far, we decided to go with

an 11 course basement and use TPI floor trusses rather than 2x10's. This will

allow us to run most of the plumbing, electrical, and heating through built in

access panels in the TPI Floor trusses instead of having to go below and take some

of the head room away. Laying the block yourself will save you money, but going with an

experienced mason who has a crew will result in a very nice job in a short amount

of time.
