Setting up the roof trusses was one of the neatest part of building the house. Not so
much in how the roof trusses were set, but in the whole event surrounding setting the
trusses.

Here are the roof trusses up on the second floor before they were set on the walls
Our Dad had planned to have a little surprise for Margaret and I where he
was going to get one of his friends to come over with a couple of guys and have all of
the roof trusses set on the walls before we got there after work. The only problem was
that Margaret and I decided to take the day off as we were getting worried that we were
getting behind. We were very surprised when everyone showed up to start working.
When you are setting roof trusses, mark the top of the walls that you are setting the
roof trusses on every 24" so when you physically set the truss on the wall, you don't have
to spend a lot of time measuring and moving around. With the walls already marked, you only
have to lift the truss up and set it into place. We managed to set the trusses with about
six guys. One guy on each end of the trusses up on the walls who would nail the trusses into
the walls. One guy in the middle up in the trusses already set who would measure from the
previous truss to insure correct spacing and then nail a 2x4 across the two to hold them in place
The last three guys were on the ground handing up the trusses. It took about
two hours to set about 25 trusses.
