Rough Plumbing

Unless you wish to use a porta-potty for the rest of your life, you will need

to have plumbing in the house. Plumbing is usually divided into 2 classes-the first is the

water lines and the second is the waste lines. Usually the waste lines are put in first as they

are the bigger pipes and they have to have a downward slope as they are not under pressure all of

the time like the water pipes. This is the best time to decide if you are going to have a bathroom

in the basement as it is easier to put all of the pipes in now before the cement is poured rather than

waiting and having to cut the basement floor up to lay the pipe later. You also need to decide the

layout of your bathrooms so that the plumbers can put the pipes in the right spot. The showers

and tubs should have been delivered a while ago before the outside sheathing was put on and before

the windows and doors were installed as most showers and tubs are larger than most door and

window openings. After the waste and water pipes are installed, the plumbing should be inspected

before you can continue on with the next stage.

This inspection usually involves the plumber demostrating that the pipe can hold a certain amount

of air pressure for a given amount of time. If the plumbing passes inspection, you are ready to

begin getting the basement ready for cement.
