Drilling the water well

If you are not building in a development or in a city, chances are you will have to drill a water

well to have running water in your house. Water wells usually consist of a pump

that is buried many feet underground in a underground water supply which pumps water up to the

surface through a number of connected pipes. Once the water nears the surface, it is usually

piped into the house into a holding tank that is usually in the basement. From the holding tank,

the water is able to go into the water pipes that are all throughout your house.

Here is the truck that was used to drill the well.

Before the water can be pumped from underground into your house, a hole has to be dug and the pipe

and pump have to be lowered into the hole. When choosing someone to drill your well, you might

want to consider choosing someone local as they usually know the area, the type of water and the

the soil type they will encounter while they are drilling your well. This knowledge can mean the

difference between getting water that is clear and good tasting or water that has a lot of iron or other

minerals in it.

The well took about two days to drill and the drillers had to go down about 92 feet. Once they had the

well drilled and the pipes and pump buried, they were able to run the pipe into the house and hook

up the holding tank inside the basement.

The final task that the well driller will have to do is prepare the water for drinking. This requires the

drillers to chorlinate the water first to make sure there is no bacteria left over from the drilling process

and then take a sample to the health department to get the water system approved.
