Abut 100 people came out for a chance to hear not only how the mountain dulcimer can handle the traditional repertoire, but can also sound great on any style of music in the hands of a master like Stephen Seifert.
Stephen Seifert appeared in concert in the Lecture Hall at
the Kent Salem Campus starting at
This was the fourth concert presented in this series by Dulci-More and the Kent Salem Music Department with previous concerts by Bryan Bowers, by Patty Looman, and by Madeline MacNeil. The next one scheduled in the series will be singer/songwriter Bill Staines from New Hampshire on Wednesday, October 1, 2003. Other concerts previously presented by Dulci-More at the Meeting Room of the Salem Historical Society or at the First United Methodist Church of Salem have included Bryan Bowers, Susan Trump, Pat Travis with Bill Matlack, and Patty Looman.
Steve also conducted two mountain dulcimer workshops in Salem on the evening of Tuesday, September 9.
The workshop for beginners (including brand new players) and advanced beginners concentrated on strumming and right hand technique with common jam tunes for participants to learn. Tablature was available for DAA or DAD tunings.
The other workshop for those with intermediate or advanced skill levels continued with rhythm and right hand techniques including ways to use left hand techniques to add variations to the melody. Tablature was available for DAA or DAD tunings.
Cost for Workshops – $15.00 per participant
Steve also did several private master lessons on September 9 or 10 at $40 for an hour.
Steve’s recordings and books were available at the concert and workshops and sold well. Refreshments during the intermission of the concert were provided by Dulci-More members.
